JANE PUYLAGARDE

RECONCILIATING THE INFINITELY LARGE AND THE INFINITELY SMALL
A painter with a demanding style, Jane Puylagarde presents monumental monochrome works that reinvent the art of drip painting. A new pointillism that requires patience and meticulousness.

THE JOURNEY OF AN EXCEPTIONAL ARTIST

Some souls are born to be artists. And Jane Puylagarde is certainly no exception. After studying law and political science, the young woman turned to fashion design, which brought her her first success with a ready-to-wear brand. But it was her encounter with an Indian ceramicist during a trip to Mexico that revealed her true destiny. With her, she discovered the art of pointillism, which consists of applying tiny drops of paint side by side to create overall patterns. A meticulous, almost obsessive process, to which Jane would elevate its artistic expression.

THE POWER OF REINVENTION

Breaking free from the tradition of the paintbrush, Jane Puylagarde reinvents her method of applying paint to canvases, using the tips of hairpins from her chignons. With a precise awareness of the execution of a preliminary drawing, she deposits drops of acrylic paint to bring to life majestic works inspired by movement, dance, the cosmos, and nature. Sometimes, up to twenty successive layers are required to form a single drop. Never before has a precise and repetitive gesture so successfully combined pleasure and the pursuit of perfection.

THE MIRACLE OF DROPS THROUGH THE LIGHT

Traveling the world, Jane Puylagarde's monochrome works adorn the most beautiful private and public spaces. This enthusiasm undoubtedly stems from their refined and ever-changing aesthetic. Thanks to the interplay of light and shadow that animates them throughout the day, the artist's canvases are enriched by a succession of new lives. Whether bathed in natural light or illuminated by nighttime illumination, the shadows create constantly renewed creative movements on the blank canvases. A kind of brushstroke generating fleeting shadows that intersect, lengthen, or thicken according to the structure of the droplets. And you, what is your favorite moment to be mesmerized by Jane Puylagarde's works?
