TARSILA DO AMARAL AT THE LUXEMBOURG MUSEUM
Tarsila do Amaral, a renowned figure of Brazilian modernism, left her mark on art history with her rich and evocative visual universe. Drawing inspiration from indigenous traditions, popular culture, and the modern transformations of her country, she masterfully blended local and international influences. Trained in Cubism and Primitivism in Paris in the 1920s, she became, in São Paulo, the instigator of the Anthropophagic movement, a bold vision of art as the creative devouring of foreign cultures. Presenting vibrant landscapes, dreamlike scenes, and politically engaged compositions, Tarsila's work powerfully explores the tensions between tradition and modernity. A groundbreaking retrospective organized by the Grand Palais highlights this visionary artist before its presentation at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in 2025.
