FU SITE DISRUPTIVE FABLES

Represented in France by the PARIS-B gallery, which exhibited his work last month at the Singapore art fair, Fu Site has emerged as one of the most talented artists of his generation. Born in China in 1984 and living in France since 2006, this virtuoso painter creates improbable worlds populated by chimeras, deformed creatures, and tattered bodies in pastel hues. A fantastical universe of a new kind unfolds in unsettling, bottomless spaces.

One might think that AI had intervened, so much do the forms and spaces transgress the laws of anatomy, perspective, and gravity: decaying or atomized forms and floating spaces where everything seems to distort. Evoking in turn the surreal desert landscapes populated by ectoplasmic floating forms of Yves Tanguy, the atomized figures of Salvador Dalí, the flabby and convulsive flesh staged by Francis Bacon, and the bone explosions of François Lunven, his paintings plunge us into unfathomable worlds populated by indeterminate creatures.

DISAGREGATION

Shreds swirling like petals (Circle and Ascending Path, 2022), fragmented or decaying bodies (Nude, 2021), heterogeneous assemblages, dances of volutes, stains and tangles of lines…: everything here conspires to disorient us. As in fairy tales, we are invited to
to penetrate the depths of an unreal universe in pastel colors, without spatial limits and without vanishing point, outside of time, where everything seems to float and be able to disappear.

A dreamlike universe populated by gnomes and chimeras, pink horses and disembodied faces, animals and distorted human figures, as if fluctuating or unfinished. Sometimes grotesque, sometimes spectral (Woman and Dark Figure, 2021), these enigmatic creatures move through unfathomable spaces. Incoherent spaces (devoid of foreground and background) that they inhabit without seeming to truly belong there.

TRANSITIONAL FORMS

In "Ambient Transitional Visions 1," Fu Site's paintings sometimes proceed from "collages" of unidentifiable organic forms, evoking the exquisite corpses of the Surrealists or some science fiction film depicting the metamorphosis or disintegration of bodies. A master of indeterminacy, the artist seems to want to reveal the process of transformation of bodies or bodies in gestation, whose embryonic forms he readily merges while blending figurative and abstract styles in a vertiginous maelstrom. Thus depriving his scenes of any logical coherence, Fu Site plays with spatio-temporal ambiguity with chilling virtuosity. In a new approach to figuration, he
develops disruptive fables, stories "in the making", showing us reality devoured by the virtual.
