At the last International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Axiom Space and Prada unveiled the design of the very first suit intended for the astronauts of NASA's Artemis III mission: the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU).

This unprecedented partnership between the innovative space infrastructure designer and the famous fashion brand marks a turning point in the design of spacesuits, combining cutting-edge engineering and creative know-how.
The AxEMU project was designed to offer increased flexibility and performance, adapted to the extreme conditions of the lunar South Pole. Through close collaboration with engineers from Axiom Space, Prada's research and development team contributed its expertise in materials and production techniques.
The result is a suit that will not only protect astronauts from freezing temperatures and lunar dust, but will also offer superior comfort thanks to innovative materials and a refined aesthetic design. The suit's outer layer, made of heat-reflective white materials, withstands extreme temperatures while providing a futuristic look.

This partnership reflects the evolution of the commercial space industry, which relies on cross-functional collaborations to push the boundaries of exploration. By combining Axiom Space's technical expertise with Prada's attention to detail, the AxEMU project becomes a symbol of innovation, marking the beginning of a long-term partnership.
The AxEMU suit underwent extensive testing, including simulations in aquatic environments and reduced gravity, to ensure its performance before use on the Moon. Axiom Space continues to refine the model, with further testing planned and the final revision phase scheduled for 2025.
