"The subtleties of a dialogue" highlighted the iconic creations of Cristóbal Balenciaga and his successor, Demna.
For European Heritage Days, Kering has chosen to present a selection of pieces that transcend mere clothing to become true works of art. The exhibition design has been carefully crafted to highlight the refined details of each creation, allowing visitors to explore the harmony of shapes, the balance of pleats, and the purity of silhouettes, while appreciating the aesthetics and craftsmanship that characterize the house.
The exhibition was divided into six thematic sections: the collar, the sleeve, the waist, the back, black, and dialogues. Each segment emphasized specific elements, showcasing innovative construction and social significance. Highlights included monochrome pieces in Spanish lace, creations in gazar, and innovations in silk satin and sustainable neoprene, presented as masterpieces of materiality.
In another part of the exhibition, mannequins presented creations by Cristóbal and Demna side by side, symbolizing a genuine dialogue. The pieces came from Balenciaga's historical archives as well as contemporary collections, offering a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of the house.

This unique exhibition, for the first time, showcased contemporary Demna pieces alongside the house's historical archives. Visitors had the opportunity to admire intricate silhouettes and bold volumes illustrating how Demna reinterprets historical codes with a decidedly modern approach. For example, a hoodie from the Spring/Summer 2022 collection was juxtaposed with a houndstooth coat dating back to 1962, demonstrating the aesthetic continuity that spans the decades.
The exhibition was a tribute to Balenciaga's timeless legacy and its continued impact on the world of fashion. With over 900 pieces preserved in its archives, the House of Balenciaga was committed to showcasing this unique heritage, highlighting the importance of creativity through the ages.
