Originally from Paris, but having grown up amidst the vineyards of Saint-Émilion, the painter was long inspired by Cubism before establishing a figurative style. The textures are thick, the lines bold, the gestures exaggerated, and the colors vibrant. Zontone liberates himself from all forms of intellectualization and favors spontaneity, where chance becomes a creative driving force.
Tireless, the artist is fueled by his passion for travel and poetry. Having journeyed the world, he has enriched himself with a cosmopolitan experience, woven from numerous encounters. Humanity lies at the heart of his art. The female body, a recurring motif in his work, is deconstructed and then reconstructed – each fragment becomes an important detail in creating a perfect and self-evident harmony. Ambitious and driven by an insatiable curiosity, the painter pushes the boundaries of his art by exploring new mediums, from monumental murals on building facades and wallpaper (notably in a collaboration with Inaltera) to clothing that he personalizes by drawing inspiration from his paintings. But his curiosity doesn't stop there. Zontone embarks on a large-scale project, "Art Splash," where he explores a new medium: swimming pool bottoms – transforming swims into exceptional moments. The artist confides that he loves "To break free from the canvas, to push back the boundaries, to paint where one least expects it." In search of artistic evolution and new explorations, the painter chose the swimming pool as his format, because it allowed him to see things on a grand scale. "For a long time, I felt the frustration of the canvas being too narrow," he confided, adding: "Swimming pools offer me a frameless space, a place where art breathes and expands freely." He cultivates an atypical and inspiring expertise, bringing about significant changes, both visually and technically. Each artwork is painted directly onto the pool liner, using a resin-based paint specially designed to resist chlorine, UV rays, and humidity.
