CLIFFHANGER HOUSE A BREATHTAKING RETREAT IN AUSTRALIA

For the past twelve years, Joe Adsett Architects has been applying his deep-rooted passion for designing buildings that stand out, respond to the eccentricities of the terrain and stand the test of time. Cliffhanger House is just such a building.

The impressive, elegant and durable structure takes the form of a folded concrete shell, skilfully balanced on a cinderblock foundation that anchors itself in the sloping topography. Located in Toowoomba, a town in southeast Queensland, Australia, the residence embraces panoramic views from the crest of Australia's famous Great Dividing Range. The design features a 6.5 m concrete cantilever and full-height glazing on the entire eastern facade.

Interior design choices match the exterior, softened by wood veneer in the living spaces and travertine-like porcelain in the bathrooms. Modernist furniture magnifies the spaces and combines with soft textures and colors. Joe Adsett also shines for his attention to detail in design, concealing elements to favor a sober, minimalist approach. This refined palette echoes, both in reflection and contrast, the breathtaking view, transforming this home into a truly warm and welcoming refuge.
