FARASHA FARMHOUSE REINVENTING RURAL HABITAT IN MARRAKCHI

An enclave set apart from the city, Farasha Farmhouse is much more than a country house. Under the expert eye of Aire au Carré, it was conceived as a retreat far from the hustle and bustle of the medina. A place to reconnect with nature where minimalist architecture recedes before the power of the elements…

A MIXED-RACE SIGNATURE

The story of Aire au Carré is first and foremost that of its founding partners, Dorothée Ricard and Sylvain Ragueneau. Fresh out of university, they discovered Marrakech in 2006. Drawn to the unique character of this city where modernity and tradition intertwine, the duo was captivated by its remarkable craftsmanship, ancestral know-how, and architectural style so different from European norms. After honing their skills in various firms, they founded their own architecture and interior design agency in 2017, aptly named Aire au Carré. Their stated ambition: to create hybrid projects where Moroccan craftsmanship and expertise serve modern architecture! More than just a desire for independence, creating their own agency gives them the freedom to design spaces where contemporary design and tradition coexist harmoniously. True to the Marrakesh spirit, their projects showcase the rich local culture and environmentally conscious innovation. It's about imagining living spaces that are both sustainable and desirable.

RESPECT THE SOUL OF THE PLACES

A land of shimmering colors and sweet fragrances, Morocco is one of the cradles of humanity. Steeped in centuries of history, its traditional architecture blends seamlessly into its pristine natural environment. Marrakech is no exception. Known for the splendor of its majestic palaces and lush gardens, this medieval city, inherited from the Berber empire, boldly asserts its contemporary character at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara Desert. Respectful of the privileged setting in which it works daily, the Aire au Carré agency is committed to selecting projects that successfully combine comfort and authenticity. Because integrating more modern elements can never come at the expense of a place's soul! It is with this in mind that the agency undertook the renovation of Farasha Farmhouse, a former artist's residence located outside the city. Here, there's no show of force, but rather a discreet architecture that allows nature to speak for itself. Nestled in the heart of an olive grove, a veritable domestic forest of 450 trees, and a wild, regenerative garden designed by Marius Boulesteix, the property recedes into the background, allowing nature to unfold before it. Aire au Carré has ensured that every material, every detail of the interior architecture, engages in a dialogue with this environment. A minimalism that perfectly complements the ever-changing spectacle that the exterior offers throughout the seasons…

PERFECTION IN THE DETAILS

Transformed into an open and luminous space, Farasha Farmhouse is a home that blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors. While the Atlas Mountains and the Jbilet Desert stand guard in the background outside, inside, a delicate décor pays homage to Moroccan craftsmanship. Never succumbing to the pitfalls of facile exoticism, owner Rosena Charmoy has imbued the place with her appreciation for beautiful handmade objects. Each room is an intimate dialogue between her vision and local expertise. This isn't simply interior design, but rather a study of atmospheres, materials, and emotions. A multicultural experience that fuses diverse influences. And in this, it echoes the very essence of Aire au Carré's work…
