BRUTALIST FORTRESS IN THE MAYAN JUNGLE

Adrian and Andrea, a young Canadian couple straight from Ottawa, are behind this little paradise of a different kind. Moved by their visit to the Suytun cenote, an incredible underground cave beloved by the Mayans, they decided to design a villa that would capture the natural and spatial beauty of the region. Designed by Espacio 18 Arquitectura, Villa Cava was carefully crafted to blend into the surrounding landscape. In fact, it was the trees that influenced the outline of the house, while jungle views ensure absolute privacy for guests.

This Brutalist-inspired fortress is made of raw concrete molded with wood, which gradually uncovers itself to reveal itself like a sculpture. The materials were selected to harmonize with the site, given its humid, rainy climate and hurricane potential.

To discover the characteristic atmosphere of the famous cenotes, you have to step inside the building designed by Kayla Pongrac. Presented as an inhabitable sculpture, it is discovered through a concrete portal built around two trees, leading to the entrance hall.

This space is lit from above through a pool, offering a warm welcome with water and light effects on the walls.
A luxurious villa where every light fixture, brick, window and fixture has been designed in Mexico, giving this unique space an ambiance unlike any other.
