PAVILION HOUSE, A FASCINATING PLAY ON VOLUME

Athenian studio The Hive Architects, founded by Michael Xirokostas and Theodoros Panopoulos in 2020, creates spaces inspired by the "hive mind" concept, otherwise known as collective intelligence.

Their projects are conceived as places for shared, sensory experience, respecting sustainable development and the built environment. The "Pavilion House" in the village of Kalogeriko near Arta, Greece, is a case in point. The 310 m² residence is surrounded by an olive grove and vineyard, creating a constant dialogue with the landscape. Imagined as a "pavilion", it extends into a platform with its simple lines. An axis defines the functional separation between communal and private areas. The living space (living room, open kitchen and dining room) invites light, thanks in particular to the skylights in the roof. Screens also act as a visual filter between the kitchen area and the entrance area.

On the opposite side, a monolithic, compact volume, set on the south side below, houses the office space and guest house, with different entrances and an adjoining bathroom. White plaster, local stone, concrete and roof tiles are among the materials used. A swimming pool, outdoor lounge and barbecue area complete the beauty of the Pavilion House. The Hive Architects applies its vision of volumetric play and paradigms to create a poetic spatial narrative of different levels and dimensions.
