A WORTHY HEIR TO BRAZILIAN MODERNISM
"Born in the chaotic city of São Paulo." This is how Studio MK27 presents itself. Launched in the late 1970s under the guidance of architect Marcio Kogan, the architecture firm, now boasting some thirty employees, affirms its admiration for Brazilian modernism. It seeks to perpetuate this movement while rethinking this emblematic architectural style. Their approach emphasizes formal simplicity, combined with meticulous attention to detail and finishes. This successful strategy has been recognized since 2001 with over 250 national and international awards, including the Institute of Brazilian Architects Award, the Wallpaper Design Award, and the Prix Versailles. In 2012, the firm represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale. Working in both the hospitality and retail sectors, MK 27 has also excelled in the design of private villas, such as "Casa Minas," its very first project, located in the Minas Gerais region of southeastern Brazil. Situated outside Belo Horizonte, high in the mountains and perched on a particularly steep site, the house is formed by two concrete slabs that create a strong horizontal line. Elevated approximately ten meters above the ground, the villa rests on a series of pillars hidden among tree trunks in the garden, which recreates the original rainforest.
