WORTHY HEIR TO BRAZILIAN MODERNISM
"Born in the chaotic city of São Paulo. This is how Studio MK27 describes itself. Launched at the end of the 1970s, under the aegis of architect Marcio Kogan, the architectural firm, which today boasts a staff of around 30, affirms its admiration for Brazilian modernism. It aims to perpetuate this movement while rethinking this emblematic architectural trend. On the agenda: formal simplicity combined with extreme care and attention to detail and finish. Since 2001, this approach has been rewarded with over 250 national and international prizes, including the Institute of Brazilian Architects, the Wallpaper Design Award and the Prix Versailles. In 2012, the firm represented its country at the Venice Biennale. Officiating for both the hotel and boutique worlds, MK 27 has also expressed itself wonderfully in the design of private villas, such as "Casa Minas", its very first project in the Minas Gerais region of southeastern Brazil. Located just outside Belo Horizonte, high above the mountains, and set on a particularly steep site, the house is formed of two concrete slabs drawing a strong horizontal line. Raised some ten meters above the ground, the villa rests on a set of pillars hidden among the tree trunks of the garden, which recreates the original rainforest.
