The Tetro architecture firm, founded by Carlos Maia, Débora Mendes and Igor Macedo, explores new approaches to design in harmony with local ecosystems.

This 500 m² modernist house, located in Nova Lima in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, is a response to a sensitive reading of the steeply sloping site, immersed in the lush nature of the Atlantic rainforest. "Casa Açucena is like a white flower in the middle of nature," the architects poetically describe.

Indeed, it seems to blossom and float in an environment overrun with birds and wildlife. Perched on stilts, this concrete and opal glass dwelling rises 15 m above the ground, playing with the tree canopy from below, while animal and plant life continues to thrive below. Composed of different geometric volumes, the architecture occupies the empty spaces between the trees, where randomly placed black pillars blend into the trunks. In this way, Tetro plays superbly with natural materials, such as the terrace floor, the pool's water mirrors and the multiple windows that reflect the vegetation like an endless view of Brazilian nature.
