A NEW ARTIST RESIDENCY IN URUGUAY

Casa Neptuna is part of the Fundación Ama Amoedo, created by philanthropist, art collector and patron Amalia Amoedo. This artists' residence was created to "encourage creative thinking".

The building, immersed in the natural ocean environment and indigenous forest of José Ignacio, Uruguay, was built by Edgardo Giménez during the pandemic. Its playful, brightly-colored structure reflects the style of this Argentine artist and designer, whose career began in the 1960s with the avant-garde, pop-art scene in Buenos Aires.

Inside, the minimalist space is all white and bright to support the concentration and needs of interdisciplinary artists, functioning as a " laboratory of ideas and experimentation ". It includes a large shared studio, private en-suite rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and a shared multi-purpose room. The founder's aim is to make a lasting impact on the Latin American contemporary art ecosystem. The institution is expected to broaden dialogue and networks in the arts of Latin America, the Caribbean and the diaspora, with particular emphasis on the Argentine and Uruguayan scenes.
