With a collection already boasting 11 books, MACK Editions now offers, for the first time, access to the screenplays of films produced or distributed by the A24 studio. These beautiful, richly illustrated books are often accompanied by texts by well-known authors.

Already the initiator of the exciting and impressive Sofia Coppola Archives, MACK Editions has signed a new collection of cinema books. In partnership with A24, the leading studio of today's American independent cinema, the British publisher is offering a number of books in September that will delight aficionados of today's hottest cinema. These include 11 of the most talked-about film scripts in recent years: Ari Aster's Midsommar, Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird, Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse, Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin, Barry Jenkins' Moonlight, Yorgos Lanthimos' The Lobster and Lee Isaac Chung's Minari.
Great sources of inspiration for budding scriptwriters, these books are above all beautiful collectors' items. True to form, MACK Editions have paid particular attention to both the exterior and interior design of the books. The chapter titles of The Witch (by Robert Eggers) are displayed in a gothic font like an old grimoire, while the cover of Under the Skin is so obscurely black that the object seems to have come from another planet. In addition to the complete screenplay, each book comes with exclusive content: images from the film, photographs from the shoot and preparatory drawings (including those of Alex Garland's humanoid robot from Ex Machina). Occasionally, supplements are included to add context to the screenplay and extend the film experience, such as excerpts from a 19th-century lighthouse keeper's notebook for The Lighthouse, or Lee Isaac Chung's childhood photos from a family album for his autobiographical Minari.
Finally, the screenplays are always accompanied by often fascinating texts by film specialists or various artists whose sensibilities converge with the themes of the feature film. For example, The Lobster features an essay by Ottessa Moshfegh and a poem by Emma Stone (with whom Yorgos Lanthimos worked on his later films). The script for Hérédité opens with a preface by Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, while the script for 20th Century Women (by Mike Mills) features a conversation between the director and novelist Maggie Nelson.
In addition to this collection of screenplays, MACK offers other books published in partnership with A24: a guide to movie make-up (Beauty of the Beast, by Emily Schubert), an encyclopedia of clothing and fashion in the Euphoria series (Euphoria Fashion, by Heidi Bivens), a history of promotional goodies made by Hollywood since the 1970s (For Promotional Use Only), and even a book of movie-inspired recipes, Scrounging: A Cookbook (the one for "divorced dad French toast" from Kramer vs. Kramer is highly recommended). In short, enough to fill any film buff's library.
