Too Much – Season 1

Nearly ten years later GirlsLena Dunham is back with the creation of a series that blends mockery, romance, and autofiction: Too Much – this time alongside her husband, the musician Luis Felber. We find again the biting humor, the complicated love stories and the incisive and relevant reflections on the lives of young urbanites, which had been the very essence of the six seasons of GirlsThe heroine, Jessica (Megan Stalter), is a bit like Larry David was to Woody Allen in Whatever Works A slightly younger version of herself. Jessica has just been dumped; her ex preferred her exact opposite, a sexy and superficial influencer. Unsure of what to do with her life, and since she's a fan of Jane Austen and period romantic comedies starring Alan Rickman or Hugh Grant, she decides to take a job in London. Once the blues and disillusionment of life have passed, she's over. britishWhile not exactly what she dreamed of, Jessica has an encounter that will change her life: she meets the musician Felix. A role played by Will Sharpe (whom we saw in season 2 of The White Lotus), who joins the impressive and very edgy de Too Much Emily Ratajkowski, Naomi Watts, Andrew Rannells (whom we had already seen in Girls), Andrew Scott and even Adèle Exarchopoulos. Not forgetting Lena Dunham herself, in the role of the wise older sister, of course.

Adults – Season 1

The sitcom style Friends – a shared apartment with funny and charismatic characters – revisited with contemporary issues and humor inherited from TikTok and the codes of Generation Z: this seems to be the ambition of the series AdultsAnd it's a success! This new, sharply humorous fiction, written by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw (known as authors for the Tonight Show (by Jimmy Fallon), raises real questions about what it's like to be a young adult. The four—or even five—roommates are in their twenties, an age of great uncertainty, complicated love affairs, and first money problems. But it's still a time of carefree fun and teenage antics where life always seems so long. Driven by a cast of up-and-coming young actors who are particularly committed to their characters, Adults It manages to surprise in a landscape of already crowded American comedy series. The secret: well-digested television classics, accompanied by sharp and resolutely modern writing.

A Simple Favor 2.

The first part of this thriller girly adapted from a novel by Darcey Bell (Odd(2017) was a resounding success. It followed a single mother (Anna Kendrick) recounting her daily life in vlogs (video blogs) and his encounter with a flamboyant and mysterious mother of a student (Blake Lively). On the agenda: plenty of secrets and a few crimes. The second installment (available exclusively on Prime Video in France) revisits the same formula, changing the setting: this time to the sun-drenched rocks of Capri, Italy. An idyllic setting filmed like a postcard, an obvious pretext for introducing charismatic villains with Italian accents and mafia stories. Less effective than the first film, this sequel doesn't exactly shine with originality, but it still has its share of surprises, thanks to excellent direction (Paul Feig is still at the helm) and a very engaging duo of actresses. A sweet treat to enjoy the last days of summer.
