Nestled in the heart of the village of Rilly-sur-Loire, in the Loir-et-Cher region, lies the Château de la Haute Borde. Sometimes a guesthouse, sometimes an artist's residence, this former 19th-century mansion has been given a modern makeover by artistic directors Cécile Simon and Céline Barrière. Private tour.

Inside the five bedrooms of the building – formerly belonging to the antique dealer Jacques Barrère – craftsmanship plays a significant role. The furniture and works of art meticulously sourced by the owners, decorator and antique hunter Julie Barrau, and designer Erin Korus, blend seamlessly with noble materials such as marble and ceramic that adorn the bathroom walls, or the cocciopesto that covers the floors.

Each year, the Château de la Haute Borde transforms into a place for encounters and exchanges. During their residency, artists are invited to engage with the hosts in creative workshops and numerous festive events. Painter Antoine Carbonne, composer Claude Violante, filmmaker Kenza Meunier, ceramicist Emmanuelle Roule… many artistic souls have passed through here and still haunt the walls of the château. And this is not about to end.
Sharing also means gastronomy at CHB. Just like with artists, the duo invites chefs in residence each month to delight their guests. Last season, Zuri Camille de Souza, as well as Marine Gora – co-founder of Gramme – and Alice Arnoux, took over the castle's kitchens. During the two dinners reserved for them, the chefs focus on cooking exclusively with local and seasonal produce.
Château de la Haute Borde is an invitation to a nature retreat, located two hours from Paris. What are your plans for this summer?
