An eclectic selection of bars to discover the many facets of New York

During a recent visit to New York, I wanted to take the time to explore its iconic bars, the ones that set the tone for an evening and reveal a different side of the city. From intimate jazz clubs and vibrant spots near Broadway to spectacular rooftops and glamorous hotel bars, Manhattan offers a rare diversity.

I wanted to offer an eclectic selection, blending intimate atmospheres, breathtaking views, and more sophisticated experiences. Among all these discoveries, two places stood out in particular: The Rum House and Club Room, my absolute favorites. Two very different vibes, but each embodying the soul of New York nightlife in its own way.

Club Room: hushed jazz and a 50s vibe in the heart of Soho

Located in the legendary Soho Grand Hotel, the Club Room offers a true immersion into another era. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere envelops you: soft lighting, warm materials, comfortable armchairs, and a refined design inspired by the 50s. The place possesses a hushed and cozy charm reminiscent of the New York jazz clubs of yesteryear.

The welcome is particularly attentive, discreet and elegant. You immediately feel at ease.

The musical programming is the heart and soul of the place. Singers and groups take turns throughout the evenings, offering a selection of excellent classic jazz. The acoustics are superb, the audience attentive, and the atmosphere intimate. It's the perfect venue for an evening dedicated to traditional jazz lovers, in a warm and sophisticated setting.

The Rum House: Broadway energy and the kingdom of rum

Just steps from Times Square and Broadway, The Rum House offers a more lively, spontaneous, yet equally authentic atmosphere. The venue attracts a diverse clientele: neighborhood regulars, live music enthusiasts, tourists, and those looking to extend their evening after a show.

The atmosphere is friendly, dynamic, and typically New York. The live music is excellent, with performances that give the place a real energy.

But The Rum House's true specialty remains rum. The bar boasts an impressive selection of over 100 different rums from around the world. The bartenders create particularly original and creative cocktails, making it a must-visit for spirits enthusiasts. It's the perfect spot for a drink before or after Broadway, for a complete and vibrant Manhattan experience.

The Django: the jazz cellar spirit

In a completely different vein, The Django immerses its visitors in a jazz cellar atmosphere inspired by Parisian and New York clubs of the 20s. Located in the basement, the venue offers an intimate and immersive, almost secret atmosphere.

Brick vaults, subdued lighting, and an intimate setting close to the musicians: the experience is intense and authentic. The program blends classic jazz, swing, gypsy jazz, and contemporary influences. A genuine musical energy permeates the venue, driven by talented artists.

It's an ideal spot for those looking for a more underground, more immersive atmosphere, with a strong identity and remarkable acoustics.
