THE FAROE ISLANDS - THE HIDDEN JEWEL OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC

One of Europe's lesser-known islands, the spectacular Faroe archipelago is a sure-fire hit with anyone who sets foot here. On the programme: 18 volcanic islands with grandiose, wild landscapes halfway between Scotland and Iceland! It's hard to resist this extraordinary natural paradise of fjords, majestic cliffs, cloud-defying peaks and solemn valleys with 1,000 waterfalls, where secluded farmhouses and wooden houses with grass-covered roofs invite contemplation. Not to mention the millions of seabirds that zigzag across the sky! Untouched, unexplored, unbelievable: the Faroe Islands are a little like Iceland, but without the mass tourism.

NORDIC WINTER - THE BEST TIME TO DISCOVER THE FAROES

From October to May, the Nordic winter offers the prospect of off-the-beaten-track escapades in nature's raw state. Contrary to popular belief, the Nordic winter is not just about a harsh climate and permanent dark nights. Constantly changing, the sometimes unpredictable climate actually alternates between beautiful sunny days that illuminate picturesque fishing harbors, wild storms that lift the foaming sea, snowy scenes that reveal fascinating landscapes and the Northern Lights that make the Arctic lights dance in a life-size sky. A breath of fresh air and a touch of magic: these are the keywords for a winter holiday in the Faroes!

THE ESSENTIALS - A HOLIDAY IN THE FAROES

Tórshavn, the Faroese capital, is the first must-see on a visit to the Faroes, with its colorful wooden houses and grass roofs lining the narrow streets of the old town. But "Thor's port" hasn't remained stuck in the 15th century. The proof is in its Listaskalin museum, which features permanent collections of contemporary Faroese art. Another place, another atmosphere: the island of Vágar, reached by an underwater tunnel almost 5 kilometers long, hides the Faroes' largest body of water, Lake Sørvágsvatn. It takes just an hour's easy walk to reach the astonishing sight of the lake emptying into the sea via a vertiginous 30-metre drop. Last but not least, how can we mention the Faroe archipelago without devoting a few lines to birdwatching? To discover the famous puffins, head for the island of Mykines, an open-air ornithological reserve... The Faroe Islands are waiting for you!
