VISIT BELFAST DIFFERENTLY
A dynamic, cosmopolitan city with an optimistic outlook, Belfast is traditionally visited by bus, cab or boat. But to discover the true face of this European capital, there's nothing like a tour of its distilleries. The city's leading distillery, the Belfast Artisan Gin School, offers the "Make Your Own Gin" experience. A two-hour workshop to make, bottle, label, name and seal your own bottle of gin! A land of colossal shipyards, Belfast is home to the Titanic Belfast Museum, which traces the construction of the prestigious ocean liner. In the heart of this historic site, Titanic Distillers reinvent the tradition of Belfast whisky. More spectacular still, exploration of the historic Crumlin Road prison leads visitors to the McConnell's distillery, which has taken up residence in the A wing of the restored building. McConnell's Irish Whisky, from the eponymous brand born in Belfast in 1776, is renowned the world over. In this unique setting, where ancestral know-how is perpetuated, the distillery is committed to restoring and perpetuating the legend of Irish whiskies. Ready to hear the whispered secrets?
NORTHERN IRELAND OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
With its 14 destinations, the Spirit Trail and Distillery Passport invites visitors to discover unknown lands. Near Belfast, a trip to the Ards Peninsula will take spirits lovers to the Copeland distillery. Located in the old cinema, it is renowned for its craft whisky, gin and rum, rich in heritage and community. Once, this port town was Northern Ireland's busiest. Sailors from all over the world disembarked here, bringing with them unusual spirits and astonishing spices. Today, the distillery has embraced all its tales of smugglers, wild battles, extraordinary voyages and seafaring exploits to craft its coastal spirits. And it doesn't hesitate to tell them to anyone who dares come through its doors!
Another historic distillery, another atmosphere: the Old Bushmills distillery is the oldest licensed whisky distillery in the world. In 1608, King James I granted this small town on Northern Ireland's rugged north coast the right to distill whisky. Four hundred years later, the distillery still uses Irish barley and its own unique stream water to make its elixir, enjoyed the world over. A must-see visit to immerse yourself in Northern Irish history, in moderation!
