Founder Hillary Flur invites us to experience a blend of simplicity and adventure, beauty and serenity, silence and transcendence. With Folly Mojave, this passionate hospitality enthusiast continues her explorations and desire for escape after Folly Joshua Tree and Folly Farm, off-grid retreats that prioritize well-being, introspection, and nature. This new creation offers a truly unique stay, spanning over 80 hectares (200 acres) in the arid landscape of California.
DREAM DESIGNS
The concept unfolds around architectural structures, propelling us far from the hustle and bustle of urban life for a complete and total disconnection. The spaces symbolize natural elements and are designed by Malek Alqadi, whose work involves pushing the boundaries of architecture in the heart of the wilderness. The entire complex is made of concrete with blackened steel fittings and charred wood, creating a refined and understated aesthetic. The self-contained suites thus act as shelters from the elements, as clean lines, forms, and earthy tones blend into the environment. These sanctuaries harmoniously combine indoor and outdoor spaces, with endless views of the diverse flora and fauna of the Mojave Desert.
BETWEEN RELAXATION AND ACTIVITIES
Hillary Flur incorporates sporting activities, such as hiking, climbing, and tennis matches with legends of the sport. The wellness program is equally enticing, featuring "the Joshua Tree hot springs attuned to the lunar rhythms and intimate Nordic cycles of the Mojave." A pathway connecting these two heritage sites invites visitors to disconnect and reconnect with their inner selves. The pavilion unfolds on an elevated platform in the Mara oasis, further blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors. The designer collaborates with therapists to offer a range of holistic experiences (facials, relaxing massages, transformative sound baths). These are complemented by yoga sessions in an open space overlooking the vast desert landscape.
CUSTOM-MADE CULINARY CREATIONS
For travelers and discerning palates, a Southern California-inspired dining experience awaits, featuring private dinners around a campfire and handcrafted picnics. To achieve this, the designer has collaborated with culinary talents, each crafting bespoke American-style meals for family gatherings or more intimate fireside get-togethers. The outpost, located just steps from Folly Mojave, offers a barbecue-style dining experience, inviting guests to listen to the desert's silence and gaze at the stars. This new destination further showcases the breadth of Hillary Flur's collections: an authentic, modern, and innovative escape where time slows down, allowing for a deeper appreciation of solitude.
