Hillary Flur's new Folly collection invites us to an off-the-grid experience of travel, relaxation and well-being, at the intersection of the Mojave National Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park.
Founder Hillary Flur invites us to a blend of purity and adventure, beauty and serenity, silence and transcendence. With Folly Mojave, this hospitality enthusiast pursues her experiences and desires for escape after Folly Joshua Tree and Folly Farm, off-the-grid retreats that focus on well-being, introspection and nature. This new creation offers a retreat like no other, set in over 80 hectares (200 acres) of arid California countryside.
DREAM DESIGNS
The concept unfolds around architectural structures, propelling us away from the hustle and bustle of urban life for a full and total disconnection. The spaces symbolize natural elements and are designed by Malek Alqadi, whose work involves pushing the boundaries of architecture into the heart of the wilderness. The ensemble is made of concrete with blackened steel fittings and charred wood, creating a refined, understated aesthetic. The self-contained suites act as shelters from the elements, as clean lines, shapes and earthy tones blend into the environment. These refuges harmoniously combine interior and exterior, with endless views of the diverse flora and fauna of the Mojave Desert.
BETWEEN IDLENESS AND ACTIVITIES
Hillary Flur includes sports activities such as hiking, climbing and tennis with legends of the sport. The wellness program is also very appealing, with "the hot baths of Joshua Tree to the lunar rhythms and intimate Nordic cycles of the Mojave". A pathway between these two heritage sites invites visitors to disconnect and reconnect with their inner selves. The pavilion unfolds on a raised platform in the Mara oasis, continuing to blur the boundaries between inside and outside. The designer surrounds herself with therapists to offer a range of holistic experiences (facials, relaxing massages, transformative sound baths). Added to this are yoga sessions in an open space, facing the vast expanse of desert.
CUSTOMIZED CULINARY CREATIONS
For travelers and gourmets, there's room for Southern California-style dining, with private campfire dinners and handcrafted picnics. This time, the designer collaborates with culinary talents. Each concocts bespoke American-style meals for family gatherings or more intimate fireside settings. The outpost, located just a few meters from Folly Mojave, offers a gustatory experience around a barbecue, inviting guests to listen to the silence of the desert and contemplate the stars. This new destination continues to demonstrate the breadth of Hillary Flur's collections. An authentic, modern and innovative getaway, where time slows down to better embrace solitude.
