The Manner, the speakeasy hotel

Open since late 2024 on a typical, peaceful Soho street lined with a row of trees, The Manner is much more than a hotel: it combines the conviviality of a private home, that of a friend who would receive his guests, and the intimate character of a private club.

The second floor, accessible via a beautiful marble staircase, embodies this notion of exclusivity with The Apartment, a cozy lounge with newspapers and magazines available, drinks and finger food at your leisure, and the Sloane's cocktail bar, specializing in vintage spirits, both are reserved for hotel guests. To access the rooftop, which opened this spring, you'll also need to be staying at the hotel… or be invited by one of the occupants of the 97 rooms, including 10 suites and a duplex penthouse – the hotel's crown jewel, with its red lacquered walls and double-height bay window offering panoramic views of Manhattan. On the ground floor, The Otter offers another dining option, indoors or on the terrace, for brunch or dinner, open to the public as well.

The Manner is the first installment of a concept developed by Standard International, the parent company of The Standard Hotels lifestyle group. Verena Haller, the group's design director, collaborated on this project with Hannes Peer. An expert in residential design, the Milanese architect translated his expertise to the scale of a Brutalist-style hotel, which he has managed to make chic and glamorous. His work on optimizing space and, above all, light, is evident in the details: floor-to-ceiling mirrors, asymmetrically arranged chandeliers, glossy wood veneers, lacquered finishes, gold leaf inlays… The choice of vibrant colors and bespoke furniture and all the art objects also reflects a commitment to a warm, bold, and sophisticated design, perfectly suited to the spirit of Soho.
