The Beirut-based Lebanese designer's furniture and chair collections are marvels of conviviality and seating, combining modern materials, state-of-the-art engineering and contemporary craftsmanship.
"When it comes to design, I believe in simplicity, where form follows function in a very artistic and aesthetic way." With these words, George Geara defines his philosophy. His credo? To improve the perception of Lebanese crafts and manufacturers by pushing them to a higher level of expertise and high production standards.
For this Beirut-based designer from Jbeil in Lebanon, design is as much about "sculpting shapes from sounds", because "music is architecture in motion". No surprise there. This Beirut architecture and Madrid industrial design graduate spent fourteen years studying piano and attending music conservatories.
His furniture is lyrical, playful and geometric, combining function with a delicate interplay of lines, shapes, patterns and volumes. In the space of almost ten years, George Geara has carved out a place for himself in the world of design. " With a passion for research and experimentation, I believe in constant innovation and simplicity, where feelings unite form and function with petrified sculpture," he says.
Between machine and craft
The designer creates a dialogue between materials and trends, craft and machine, balancing ancestral traditions with modern sophistication. The Bar Baron, crafted in travertine marble with Nobel leather and olive wood, reflects the values of resistance and history.
The "Amalgam" collection is also of the same ilk. It includes bar stools, low armchairs, rocking chairs and long-back chairs built to embrace the human body. For the latter piece, named Echelle, the designer worked with a Lebanese carpenter, who carved the wooden frames, then engraved a laser-cut metal skeleton. The upholstered, curved seat thus plays on comfort and conviviality.
Its latest creation, the Cathedra chair, designed from a blend of noble materials, always reconciles elegance, style and well-being. The hand-carved wooden backrest, highlighted by artisanal marquetry, sublimates the upholstered seat with delicate embroidery. George Geara's collections never cease to seduce the eye, skilfully combining modern allure with the soul of craftsmanship. A talent to watch.
