JOHN LENNON'S OB-4 MIND GAMES SPEAKER

Teenage Engineering and Sean Ono Lennon have joined forces to design a new limited edition version of the OB-4 speaker, with John Lennon's Mind Games album pre-loaded in disc mode.

Between technology, design and music, ideas never cease to flourish. And Teenage Engineering, founded in Stockholm in 2007, is the place to be. For almost twenty years, the Swedish electronic instrument manufacturer has been shaping a new legacy of sustainable technologies for lovers of sound and music. This collective of engineers and programmers collaborates with brands and artists on groundbreaking, far-reaching designs. The OB-4 Mind Games loudspeaker is a perfect example. The company has teamed up with the protean musician, songwriter and producer Sean Ono Lennon, son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, for a new edition of this original portable model.

IMMERSIVE LISTENING EXPERIENCE

The OB-4 takes a creative approach to listening on the move, offering high-fidelity stereo sound, with a 72-hour battery life. It features a host of functions, such as looping and fast forward and rewind in direct audio, whether from the radio, Bluetooth or line-in.

This special edition incorporates John Lennon's 1973 album Mind Games, while drawing on the design of his record sleeve. For Sean Ono Lennon, this is not only his "favorite song" in terms of "musical compositions", but also a "jewel in the crown of his father's solo career". In 2020, he told Rolling Stone magazine (US), which in 2008 ranked John Lennon in the top 5 of the "100 greatest singers of all time" list.

For users, the idea is to play with the original album, with the option of modifying it in Ambient mode. The object contains six new versions of Mind Games, remixed and extended, nine meditation mixes, nine mantras, several bonus tracks and an exclusive metronome.

REINVENTING MUSICAL CREATION

This limited release coincides with the reissue last July of this iconic album in a new box set, The Ultimate Collection, featuring all these different listening experiences.

The concept is therefore a great opportunity to (re)discover John Lennon's work in a different way. An approach that Teenage Engineering had already tried with Virgil Abloh (1980-2021) with the OB-4 Off-White model. This version used the traditional music of the gyil, an African percussion instrument, by Ghanaian artist SK Kakraba in the OB-4's disc mode.

The Swedish company continues to revolutionize musical composition by integrating creativity into everyday life. This object joins a long line of products, including the OP-1 all-in-one portable synthesizer, the ultra-portable Pocket Operators and the PO-80 Record Factory, designed with artist and sound designer Yuri Suzuki, which lets you burn your own vinyl records.
