Ode to '80s design

Remix Gallery revives 1980s design with a postmodern aesthetic, featuring a collection of pieces that are as rare as they are iconic.

The 1980s remain a symbol of the revolutionary and sociological changes that occurred at many levels of society. This is precisely the credo of the founders of Remix Gallery, which specializes in French design. Valérie Bouvier and Antoine Nouvet have been bringing this aesthetic and eclectic legacy to the contemporary world and reviving it since 2015 in their space in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. Bouvier is a visual artist, Nouvet a historian. They both develop a reflection that is simultaneously "formal, functional, and political," while dedicating their research to the work of Philippe Starck, a visionary designer they revere and whose objects have become cult classics. Sofas, armchairs, chairs, lighting, screens, bookcases, tables, desks… In eight years, they have managed to build "a stock and collection as significant as they are rare, of pieces that are no longer in production," championing "a postmodern aesthetic, iconic of this period as prolific as it is mythical."

Renewal and inventiveness

Within their gallery, the duo already boasts numerous big names, such as Andrée Putman, Ettore Sottsass, Pascal Mourgue, Olivier Gagnère, Gilles Derain, Christian Duc, Alessandro Mendini, and Jasper Morrison. These two children of the 1980s fiercely defend creators and their work, renewing the styles and avant-garde vision of this flourishing decade, which shows no signs of slowing down. One only has to look at their various solo exhibitions organized in their space, as well as their recent booths designed for the Paul Bert market and PAD Paris last March. Because, even today, the aesthetics eighties It continues to captivate all generations, surprising the public with its inventiveness, audacity, radicalism, geometric shapes, and vibrant colors. It also regularly contributes "to enriching institutional and private collections," as Remix Gallery points out, for a perpetual renewal of design, and more broadly, of art and fashion.
