Ode to '80s design

Remix Gallery brings 1980s design back to a postmodern aesthetic, with a collection of pieces as rare as they are iconic.

The decade of the 1980s remains a symbol of the revolutionary and sociological changes that took place on many levels of society. This is precisely the credo of the founders of Remix Gallery, who specialize in French design. An aesthetic and eclectic heritage for the contemporary world that Valérie Bouvier and Antoine Nouvet have been bringing back to light and up to date since 2015 in their space in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. The former is a visual artist, the latter a historian. Both develop a reflection that is at once "formal, functional and political", while devoting their research to the work of Philippe Starck, a visionary designer whom they revere and whose objects have become cult favorites. Sofas, armchairs, chairs, lighting fixtures, folding screens, bookcases, tables, desks... In eight years, they have built up "a stock and collection as important as it is rare of pieces [that are] no longer produced", claiming "a post-modern aesthetic, iconic of this period as prolific as it is mythical".

Renewal and inventiveness

Andrée Putman, Ettore Sottsass, Pascal Mourgue, Olivier Gagnère, Gilles Derain, Christian Duc, Alessandro Mendini and Jasper Morrison. These two children of the 1980s defend designers and creations tooth and nail, renewing the styles and avant-garde vision of a flourishing decade that shows no signs of running out of steam. Just take a look at the various monographic exhibitions organized in their space, as well as their recent stands at the Paul Bert market and at PAD Paris last March. Even today, the eighties aesthetic continues to appeal to all generations, surprising the public with its inventiveness, audacity, radicalism, geometric shapes and bright colors. It also regularly contributes to "enriching institutional and private collections", as Remix Gallery emphasizes, for a perpetual renewal of design, and more broadly of art and fashion.
