Like their small-scale architectural creations, Guglielmo Giagnotti and Patrizio Gola are unassuming. This year, for Milan Design Week, the Studioutte duo (a contraction of "studio" and "hut") emerged from their small "cabin" to unveil "SALA D'ATTESA," a meditative waiting room where ochre-red satin envelops those who enter. The installation invites visitors to explore their new furniture collection.

« SALA D'ATTESA is a tribute to incompleteness [and] to the process of solidification in architecture, from textiles to masonry. […] This scenography is made of repeated aluminum structures, devoid of rhythm or methodology "That's what the interior architects and designers say. As if suspended in time, this new installation invites visitors to pause and contemplate their surroundings." The few objects that populate the room remain "on hold", if only momentarily. », continue Guglielmo and Patrizio.
The ochre satin covering the walls instantly evokes the cinematic world of David Lynch's Twin Peaks series (1990). However, it was a completely different atmosphere that inspired the duo: We've never watched that TV series. Our imagination and aesthetic references are often tied to certain experimental and controversial films of the 1970s […] and, in this particular case, to the experimental aesthetic of film clubs. The Biga armchair, the Timpano table, the Ant chaise longue and the Ert chair – designed specifically for Monde Singulier – are the result of research focused on tranquility. The exception remains the Linz chair, inspired by the decorative universe of designer Josef Hoffmann. »
Like the paintings of the artist Kazimir Malevich, the geometric shapes that compose these small architectural pieces are inspired by Suprematism, a modern art movement that emerged from Cubism. "In a way, we consider the square to be more classic. It remains a fairly natural shape for our furniture pieces."
Lacquer is omnipresent on the furniture surfaces. This is a way of paying homage to Italian design of the 1940s, as the Milanese studio points out: We believe that this is also a point of convergence between a vernacular and primitive approach. "The oak structure, meanwhile, was chosen for its durability and strength."
In the future, Guglielmo and Patrizio wish to continue their momentum and, in particular, to use their creativity in interior architecture and design for the hospitality industry.
