The geometry of objects plays a significant role in how we perceive our environment, especially when it comes to interior design. Right-angled furniture dominates this market. Without even realizing it, we tend to gravitate towards these pieces with their radical shapes for reasons of balance and proportion. Right lines and angles evoke rigor, simplicity, and stability. But could curved shapes contribute to a better living experience in an intimate space? 

Society has been built around symbols and colors that convey universally accepted messages; take traffic lights, for example, whose meaning is essentially about "dos and don'ts." Geometry, too, conveys meanings, whether we are aware of it or not. The interior design sector has had to adopt visual identities to develop an essential market. The circle and the sphere represent the world, the planets, the universe, and by extension, universality. The spiral, composed of a curve that starts from a point and evolves continuously around this fixed point, symbolizes physical energy, increasing power, and dynamism. Arched forms are considered organic because they are predominantly observed in natural spaces. They are an allegory for freedom, and their lack of rigidity creates a friendly and joyful atmosphere. Far from the notion of discipline and rigor, rounded elements like bubbles, clouds, balls, the sun, and wheels awaken a sense of nostalgia in us because of their references to childhood; they are often evoked in contexts that speak of kindness and freedom, such as motherhood, universality, and youth. Our living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens become true havens where privacy and comfort take precedence. 

Furniture is becoming more rounded, as if to create spaces conducive to comfort, calm, and serenity. Integrated into modern interiors, curved silhouettes contrast with rectilinear forms to produce a different dimension and draw the eye. The interplay of shapes is important because it structures our perception of the world and influences our emotions, behaviors, and living spaces. Unlike the square, which reassures through its consistency and balance, the circle envelops and soothes through its fluidity.
