"TULIPA", THE NEW COLLECTION BY SOPHIE LOU JACOBSEN

IN COLLABORATION WITH DE GOURNAY
The Franco-American designer invites herself into the world of Maison de Gournay to create a collection of glass objects. The collection is inspired by the delicate wallpapers of the famous British brand. This happy union was unveiled at London Design Week.

Renowned for its hand-crafted wallpapers, embroidered fabrics and delicate painted porcelain, Maison de Gournay is now branching out into contemporary design. How do we do it? By inviting Sophie Lou Jacobsen to contribute to its creative offering. Known for her glass creations, the designer has chosen to draw on the repertoire of the famous house to give shape to a collection of objects. Wallpapers from the "Chinoiserie" series charmed the designer and inspired her translucent and opaque pieces. A veritable tribute to de Gournay's work, the "Tulipa" collection comes in a variety of pieces, including vases, wall sconces, pendant lights and mirrors. Connoisseurs will see an obvious nod to the "Giardino Segreto" collection, launched in May 2023, which featured floral motifs.

But it's much more than that, insists the designer: " This collection is an extension of 'Giardino Segreto', seen through the prism of the Gournay brand's rich heritage. I've pushed the collection further: adding colors, new shapes, larger pieces and new typologies in the form of lighting, mirrors and wall sconces. This was an opportunity to develop the collection into a much larger series and experiment with how the language of design can evolve and transform. " Thus, "Tulipa" is clothed in organic colors ranging from ochre to brown, but also in the milky white that the Franco-American had implemented for "Giardino Segreto". In addition to this plant inspiration, Sophie Lou Jacobsen has also borrowed particular shapes from the world of Maison de Gournay: " The shapes and scale of the vases in the collection, for example, subtly recall the porcelain urns often found in the same environments as these iconic wall coverings, while a palette of golds, yellows and pinks beautifully complements the wallpapers. To showcase her creations, the designer teamed up with New York antique dealer Christopher Cawley, who specializes in 18th and 19th century furniture and decor. The duo has combined furniture and decor from these two centuries to evoke the worlds conceived by designer Pauline de Rothschild, or the European salons of the early 20th century.
