In her new series, the photographer, painter and visual artist explores the inner world of the artist in the face of the world's changes, creating a surreal, colorful and poetic distortion.
From her earliest childhood, Ksenia Usacheva has been passionate about photography and painting. This native of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, quickly pursued various studies in the arts, as well as international business and economics, at several schools in the Russian Far East, Italy, and France. She settled in Paris, taking photography courses at the Spéos school and art history and visual arts at the Sorbonne. She cut her teeth in the world of fashion, shooting editorials, campaigns, and celebrity portraits that garnered attention, while simultaneously developing her taste for still lifes and oil painting. A visual artist, painter, and photographer, Ksenia Usacheva thus expands the scope of her art, asserting her surreal, dreamlike, and colorful style.
MIRROR OF THE MODERN WORLD
In this kaleidoscope of experiences, she has established her vision in just under a decade. In her recent series, Ksenia Usacheva playfully and aesthetically deconstructs the world to create a surreal, timeless universe. For her, beauty reveals itself as an "eternal present toward the future." This is what "The Poetry of Distortion" demonstrates, a series selected this year by the jury of the prestigious Picto Fashion Photography Award, for which she was a finalist. "Throughout history, the artist has always been a mirror of the modern world. They are an alchemist, transforming their emotions, dreams, and torments into works of art. According to the laws of nature, we know that the Earth rotates on its axis. But if natural changes occur, various incidents disrupt nature's balance. We call this a violation of the matter balance." This is the starting point for this series, which questions the artist's inner world.
BEAUTY IN IMBALANCE
This virtuoso artist confronts her subject with the planet's transformations, encompassing ecological crises, social divisions, political upheavals, and technological advancements. Through her models, she immerses us in the creator's disorientation, swept away by the chaos and imbalance of society. She creates a surreal distortion of reality, fueled by the ever-accelerating fluctuations and flow of information. The artist's existence and vision are thus altered, transformed, and distorted.
Between poetry and color, the boundaries become blurred, shifting and overlapping, when concepts of beauty are no longer the canons of an ideal world. "As great thinkers say: to be in balance, it is sometimes normal to lose some," continues Ksenia Usacheva in her photographic reflection, before concluding: "In these uncertain times, the artist remains a beacon, illuminating our path through the storms of change."
