Cannes 2025: elegance under control

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival kicked off amid controversy with the introduction of strict new dress code rules on the red carpet. Organizers banned see-through outfits and excessively voluminous dresses, particularly those with long trains, citing reasons of "decency" and ease of movement. The decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some seeing it as an infringement on artistic freedom of expression.

Despite these restrictions, a number of celebrities have managed to make their mark with bold choices:

Irina Shayk opted for a black and white polka-dot Armani Privé dress, with a pleated skirt and puffed sleeves. An elegant choice in line with the new guidelines, contrasting with her more revealing outfits of previous years.

Juliette Armanet, known for her emotional performance of "Imagine" at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, chose a simple and sophisticated Celine outfit that reflects her style.

Eva Longoria shone in a strapless gown by Tamara Ralph, adorned with silver sequins and a black train. Although spectacular, her outfit respected the new festival standards.

Shanina Shaik captivated attention in a red strapless gown by Zuhair Murad, with a dramatic overskirt, demonstrating that elegance can coexist with sartorial constraints.

Heidi Klum defied the new rules in a voluminous pink dress by Elie Saab, with an imposing train, illustrating the tensions between creativity and regulation.

In short, despite the new restrictions, the Cannes 2025 red carpet was the scene of some memorable looks, testifying to the ability of artists to express themselves with style and daring, even in a more regulated setting.
