The brand that celebrates the French art of living joins forces with the Japanese fashion house for a limited-edition collection. The result? The best of both worlds.
It all began in 2017 with a first piece, created jointly by the two houses. The project? To develop a complete collection over 25 years, releasing at least one new design every year. In addition to exacting standards and creativity, two qualities and values inherent to both partners in the collection, the common thread could be gold. And for good reason: it appears on the very first creations, such as the cups, which feature gilded handles that disrupt the traditional silhouette of this classic piece of tableware. These cups were created from pieces from several Astier de Villatte collections, disassembled and then reassembled, much like the work of designer Chitose Abe for Sacai.
This reconstruction technique is also reminiscent of that of kintsugi, a Japanese technique that involves repairing ceramics or porcelain while highlighting their breaks with gold powder. This is why it inspired the new pieces, plates that appear to have been made from several fragments of different plates. They feature moldings adorned with gold, creating this illusion of kintsugiAll crafted in Astier de Villatte's Parisian workshops, they were previously unavailable in France. This injustice has now been rectified. The collection was presented in France at the very first edition of MATTER and SHAPE in Paris last March.
