THE KETABI BOURDET GALLERY IMMERSES US IN THE 80'S WORLD

On the occasion of its participation in the first edition of Design Miami/Paris, the Ketabi Bourdet Gallery takes us on a journey through time by exploring the radical side of the 1980s.

A smoking room is what the Ketabi Bourdet Gallery recreated for the first salvo of Design Miami/Paris, the Parisian counterpart to the renowned event well-known to design enthusiasts and professionals across the Atlantic. For this inaugural edition, the gallery offered a stroll through a 1980s smoking lounge. The exhibition explored the simultaneously radical and bourgeois style characteristic of that decade. Highly minimalist, the selected creations ranged from Philippe Starck à Paolo Pallucco & Mireille Rivier, Via Ronald Cecil Sportes, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, or Rei kawakubo, Christian Duc et Mattia Bonetti.

Very dark, black, with a focus on metal and geometric lines, the exhibition highlights the possible coexistence between postmodern pieces, opulent decor and classical architecture.

Among the most unique and striking pieces is Flesh No. 7 by Rei kawakuboAlthough this one dates back to 1987, the model was reissued in 2022 by Comme des Garçons in an all-black version. Another remarkable piece is the cheval mirror. Tom Double de Philippe Starck dating from 1985.

Made from stamped and perforated sheet steel, powder-coated in grey epoxy, the mirror is part of the " Thirdly which was very briefly published by Les 3 Suisses. Only three copies are known to exist today, the gallery assures us. Finally, the table was also not to be missed. Paolo Palluco's Tankette et Mireille Rivier, evoking a miniature tank with its black lacquered steel structure, black lacquered aluminum bands and natural rubber belts.
