IN COLLABORATION WITH DE GOURNAY
The French-American designer has joined forces with the House of Gournay to create a collection of glass objects inspired by the exquisite wallpapers of the renowned British brand. This harmonious collaboration was unveiled during London Design Week.

Renowned for its wallpapers, embroidered fabrics, and delicate hand-painted porcelain, the house of de Gournay is now venturing into contemporary design. How? By inviting Sophie Lou Jacobsen to contribute to its creative offerings. Known for her glass creations, the designer has chosen to draw inspiration from the famous house's repertoire to create a collection of objects. The wallpapers from the "Chinoiserie" series captivated the designer and inspired her translucent and opaque pieces. A true homage to de Gournay's work, the "Tulipa" collection includes various pieces such as vases, wall sconces, pendant lights, and mirrors. Connoisseurs will recognize a clear nod to the "Giardino Segreto" collection, launched in May 2023, which prominently featured floral motifs.

But it's much more than that, the designer insists: This collection is an extension of “Giardino Segreto,” viewed through the lens of the Gournay brand’s rich heritage. I’ve taken the collection further: adding colors, new shapes, larger pieces, and new typologies in the form of lighting, mirrors, and wall sconces. This has been an opportunity to develop the collection into a much broader series and to experiment with how the language of design can evolve and transform. Thus, "Tulipa" is dressed in organic colors ranging from ochre to brown, but also in the milky white that the Franco-American designer had used for "Giardino Segreto." In addition to this botanical inspiration, Sophie Lou Jacobsen also borrowed specific shapes from the world of the de Gournay house: The shapes and scale of the vases in the collection, for example, subtly recall the porcelain urns often found in the same environments as these iconic wall coverings, while a palette of golds, yellows and pinks beautifully complements the wallpapers. »

To showcase her creations, the designer partnered with New York antique dealer Christopher Cawley, who specializes in 18th- and 19th-century furniture and decor. The duo combined furniture and decorative elements from these two centuries to evoke the worlds created by designer Pauline de Rothschild, as well as early 20th-century European salons.
