“MEMORABLE. IPERMODA » AT MAXXI IN ROME

WHEN FASHION AND MEMORY REDEFINE THE PRESENT
“Memorabile. Ipermoda,” presented at MAXXI in Rome, offers an in-depth reflection on contemporary fashion through a rich and varied collection of objects and creations. Using clothing, accessories, videos, and archival materials, the exhibition explores the role of fashion in a constantly evolving world, highlighting its capacity to respond to social, economic, political, and cultural changes.

The project focuses particularly on how fashion can reflect our times while also serving as a vehicle for emotions and memory. Each piece on display, whether from haute couture or independent designers, tells a unique story, imbued with profound meaning and creative experimentation. “Memorabile” embodies the aspiration to inspire wonder, celebrating creations that become almost living architectures, close to the body and bearing witness to the diversity of human expression.

The exhibition also highlights several key issues for fashion today: the relationship between time and memory, archive management, and sustainability, a major challenge facing the fashion industry. By presenting fashion objects in creative installations, it does more than simply display clothing; it also creates an atmosphere where creations interact with one another, without hierarchy, and where haute couture meets more personal and avant-garde experiences.

This exhibition explores how established and emerging designers address crucial themes such as sustainability and inclusivity. Major fashion houses like Balenciaga, Dior, and Louis Vuitton engage in dialogue with newer brands and designers such as ACT N°1 and Marco Rambaldi, illustrating the richness and diversity of contemporary fashion. "Memorabile. Ipermoda" thus invites a redefinition of fashion as an artistic and social domain, while highlighting its role in shaping collective memory.

This exhibition, in partnership with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and supported by the Bulgari Foundation, is a pivotal moment for understanding the complex dynamics and multifaceted nature of contemporary fashion. It reveals fashion as a living art, capable of capturing and anticipating the trends and challenges of our society.
