THE MODEL K IS CELEBRATING AT STEINWAY & SONS

The world-renowned piano manufacturer celebrated the 120th anniversary of this iconic upright piano, a must-have in the collection.

“Nothing but a Steinway” is the tagline of this elegant and popular instrument, designed to set “an unparalleled standard in the field of upright pianos” since 1904. A century later, the Model K continues to embody the legacy of Steinway & Sons craftsmanship. Even today, the German company, founded in 1853 by the Steinweg family, has only two factories in the world, in Hamburg and New York. The handcrafted production of these pianos requires a year of work to achieve their precise sound and perfect design.

The K model has several strings to its bow, not so much in its design, but in its harmonic structure. It has played a vital role in the creation of some of the most legendary music, offering artists a direct connection that places them physically closer to the instrument. John Lennon's "Imagine" is among the world-renowned scores composed on a Steinway upright piano.

Over time, the model has gained popularity thanks to its practicality in confined interior spaces, while maintaining a wide sound spectrum to provide an uncompromising musical experience.

VARIETY OF NUANCES AND CASCADE OF NOTES

To mark its 120th anniversary, the Model K is celebrated in two of the brand's signature collections. The "Crown Jewels" upright piano is offered in six precious veneers and adorned with a diamond inlaid in the keyboard lid. Meanwhile, the "Masterpiece 8×8," a tribute to fine woods, is crafted in eight limited-edition veneers: flamed maple, oak, eucalyptus, flamed makore, Macassar ebony, olive, American walnut, and Santos rosewood.

Like most Steinway pianos, the Model K also features the Dolce Pedal. This innovative technology, created by the brand in 2019, enhances the playing experience and expands the possibilities for tonal expression. "It allows for more precise articulation, faster repetition, and a smooth transition from forte to soft, opening up new areas of musical exploration," explains Guido Zimmermann, President of Steinway & Sons Europe.

While the grand piano has always graced the finest international stages, the upright version knows how to charm cabarets, jazz clubs and other cozy concert halls, continuing to be a reference for all pianists and music lovers.
