Two cultural institutions in Frankfurt offer a rich and complementary perspective on the extensive photographic corpus of this British living legend, from his earliest to his latest works.

This year-end, Martin Parr's work takes center stage in Goethe's birthplace with two parallel exhibitions. The Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) showcases the early photographs of this artist who cast his playful, critical, and socially conscious gaze on the vanities of the world. The exhibition draws its inspiration from his book *Early Works* (published by Maison CF, 2019). More than 50 rarely seen black and white photographs, taken between 1970 and 1985, are being presented for the first time in Germany at this photography center, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The themes and intrinsic universe of this Epsom native, a member of the Magnum agency, are already evident. Whether it's the activities of Surrey birdwatching clubs, pilgrims attending the Pope's mass in Ireland, or holiday resorts and village banquets, this is all present. A prime example is the amusing image that superimposes a depiction of the Last Supper onto a woman enjoying a buffet lunch in a Baptist chapel, or the one of a cow pretending to be a tourist on the slopes of Glastonbury Tor.

THE DAILY UNFILTERED

The Leica Gallery, for its part, is focusing on the color photography of this iconic 72-year-old. This selection continues to explore the boundaries between comedy and seriousness, reality and exaggeration, inviting the viewer to re-examine the absurdities of existence and consumer culture from a new perspective. Examples include the woman whose face is masked by a Union Jack, the swan looking directly at the camera, and the postcard-like image of a crowded beach with a price tag.

With his play on contrast and composition, his customary satirical vision has never lost sight of social and cultural issues. For more than five decades, Martin Parr's deliberate excess has consistently placed the very essence of everyday life at the heart of the aesthetic image, whether rendered in shades of gray or saturated colors.
