New curatorial orientations highlighting the major figures of contemporary photography, as well as a dialogue between past and present through the confrontation of vintage works with works by current artists pushing back the boundaries of the discipline, mark this eagerly-awaited new edition of Paris Photo (the last at the Grand Palais Éphémère before its return to the historic Grand Palais).
No fewer than 180 galleries and publishers from 26 countries are represented this year, divided into four sectors. The main sector brings together the most representative artists in contemporary photography, from Zanele Muholi at Yancey Richardson (New York) to Senta Simond at Webber (London). The Curiosa sector, which highlights the diverse practices of today's photography, from documentary to performance, presents 17 artists taking part in the fair for the first time, These include photographer/photographer Ilanit Illouz at Fisheye (Paris), who won the Louis Roederer discovery prize at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2021 for her fossilized images crystallized by the salt of the Dead Sea, Constance Nouvel represented by Galerie In Situ (Romainville), Rebekka Deubner at Jörg Brockmann (Carouge, Switzerland) and Ronghui Chen (Up, Taiwan). A veritable meeting point for the show, the Publishing sector welcomed 35 exhibitors this year. Finally, a new digital sector features a selection of galleries or "curated platforms" presenting artists who integrate digital practices into their work.

Among the many solo and duo shows in the main sector are an exploration of the 1970s photographic diary with Melissa Shook's Daily Self-Portraits and Ken Ohara's 365 / Diary shown by La Patinoire Royale (Brussels) and Miyako Yoshinaga (Tokyo). Presented jointly by Jean-Kenta Gauthier (Paris) and the Hans P. Kraus Jr. gallery of historical photography (New York), Is the Future in the Past features photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries alongside contemporary works. Last but not least, Howard Greenberg (New York) presents a selection of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, from Brassaï to Diane Arbus and Saul Leiter.

In the Curiosa sector devoted to emerging photography, among a rich offering, let's mention the digitally manipulated images of family archives by French artist of Vietnamese origin Nhu Xuan Hua at Galerie Anne-Laure Buffard (Paris). A work on
disappearance that echoes the strange elliptical photographic reproductions by Jonathan Rosić presented by Archiraar Gallery (Brussels) (see Acumen no. 33).
