MAKING ROOM FOR PHOTOGRAPHY IN ONE'S LIFE

A graduate of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Chiron Duong discovered photography while still a student. In this world where stress and performance dominate student life, photography emerged as a unique way for him to express his innermost thoughts and deepest feelings. A child of the countryside, he seeks in his photographs the tranquility of the Vietnamese landscape where he grew up. Dreamlike landscapes and ethereal atmospheres populate his images, transporting us to a floating reality where we can lose ourselves with delight. A beautiful way to disconnect from the demands of landscape architecture… Yet, Chiron Duong is a young man of his time. Engrossed in the realities of the era in which he lives, he incorporates the challenges of the modern world into his work, such as the use of universal mobile technology and the perpetuation of traditions. The result? Works at the crossroads of European and Asian cultures that evoke both the ancient and the modern!

ASIA, AN ENDLESS SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

At nearly 30 years old, Vietnamese photographer Chiron Duong fully embodies the creativity of a new generation of contemporary photographers. Drawing inspiration from his country's traditional cultures, he has developed a visual language that blends clothing, nature, and flowers. Behind his lens, the artist declares his love for traditional Vietnamese and Asian cultures, which he has studied extensively. Each vibrant cocktail of colors, colliding in ethereal movements, evokes the sense of mystery emanating from Asian folklore, faith, and traditions. As vivid as it is exhilarating, this palette of colors, so characteristic of Asia, also has beautiful stories to tell. Through photography, Chiron Duong strives to reveal all their secrets. Using photography in the manner of abstract expressionist painters, he shares a part of his colorful imagination in poetic works with striking visuals. More than just images, they are true poems…

FOCUS ON "KEEP MY HEART"

Chiron Duong's works also evoke the contrast between the carefree, optimistic spirit of childhood and the empty soul of adulthood in modern society. The invisible, relentless waves of time tend to stifle everyone's emotions and aspirations. With "KEEP MY HEART," the artist sought to reconnect with the inner voices of Vietnamese youth, to immortalize their memories, and to illuminate their hopes on life's journey with the beauty of intertwined darkness and light. For this project, no fewer than 27 young people, aged 20 to 30, participated in an intimate question-and-answer session to understand the contrast between the subconscious and unconscious worlds and their conscious, external expressions in their clothing choices. Like a new form of therapy, the photographer brings to the surface dreams, doubts, and questions related to loss of identity, the meaning of life, and connection with oneself and others! Each character is then staged for a photograph in their own fantastical world. An active participant in their own existence, they oscillate between abstraction and figuration, creating an emotion that is uniquely their own. True to the symphony of colors characteristic of his art, Chiron Duong masterfully sets fabrics and accessories in motion. His interplay of light and color invents a new folklore, magnified by dreamlike blurs, thus composing nothing less than a true ode to life.
